FODMAP Diet

This is currently a popular diet option for the treatment of IBS. Reducing foods that contain Fermentable Oligo Di and Monosaccharides and Polyols (FODMAP's) can reduce bloating.

Should you think that you may be eating excessive amounts of any of these foods then eliminating them from your diet may be worth a try.

See below for examples:

Type Compound Examples
Oligosaccharides Fructans, galacto-saccharides Wheat, barley, onion, lentils, legumes
Disaccharides Lactose Milk/dairy products
Monosaccharides Free fructose Apples, honey, asparagus, syrups
Polyols Sorbitol, mannitol, xylitol Sweeteners, gum, fruit, mushrooms
