Capsule Endoscopy

Capsule endoscopy - examination of the small intestine

A capsule endoscopy involves swallowing a tablet that contains a miniature camera. It sends images to a receiver box that records its passage through your intestine for up to 12 hours.

It is very useful for imaging the small bowel looking for causes of bleeding, diarrhoea and abdominal pain.

Its advantages are that it is easy to swallow, painless and does not involve staying in the hospital.

The capsule is disposable and passes naturally.
